The users affected by this are minimal (perhaps none except the user who reported it) because it only impacts upon files in that specific folder. Other folders are not affected. Nevertheless, to resolve this, as of v2.6.6, a dedicated 32-bit and 64-bit executable are now provided for Windows. Users are encouraged to use the appropriate executable for their system, but in 99% of cases the 32-bit one should work fine in 32-bit emulated mode, unless the content of C: Windows System32 is to be examined. In short- from version 2.6.6 on Quick Hash will be released in two editions- x32 and x64.
QuickHash GUI is an open-source Linux, Windows, and Apple Mac OSX graphical interface that enables easy and rapid data hashing of data: text, text files line by line, binary files, file comparisons, folder comparisons, disks and drive volumes (as administrator), Base64 data, as well as allowing files in one folder to be copied to another with data hashing conducted at either side for comparisons and data integrity. It was originally designed for Linux, but is also available for Windows and Apple Mac OSX. MD5, SHA1, SHA256, SHA512 and xxHash hash algorithms are available. Fixed by anchoring the elements. V2.6.2.b August 2015 Linux only The exclusion of files that were zero bytes (functionality that was introduced in v2.1 back in 2013) meant that block devices in Linux, like /dev/sda or /dev/sda1, were simply ignored if selected by the user and not hashed. A new compiler directive added to ensure that if the file is reported as zero byte that a secondary check is then done to see if its a block device in Linux.
Would be interested to hear how it copes with larger volumes of data.Download Page. V2.6.6 - Jan 2016 Added the ability to hash the content of a text file line-by-line (an expansion of the ability to hash pasted text line by line). V2.8.4 of QuickHash is now available for Apple Mac OSX. This was built using Sierra as a 32-bit application which should hopefully just work, so long as you grant it permission to run in the General Security Settings of your Apple Mac system: It is not a signed version, though in the future I may look at creating signed versions of the program as well as unsigned versions. SHA1- hash of the zip download: 36E6922CD7BB6E6B50C1E2A82EDE8DAC32BE09DE. You will obviously need a different way to compute the hash of the downloaded QuickHash zip file if you have not yet run it! To do that, simply use openssl which is built into to OSX. So launch a terminal, navigate to the folder where your download is and then simply type what you can see in the screenshot below (openssl sha1 QuickHash.zip). Note in this example, my downloaded zip is in the folder 'Documents' and I have navigated to it using 'cd Documents'.
