BUT I also got it after I loaded drivers for a KXP7105. WOrks fine on a coupe of PC's but on two others it screwed up the existing 7100 in the way you describe. Suggest you try System Restore to go back to a date ebfore the problem started - that may help.
I never got mine to work on USB using Win98, which can be touchy with USB devices anyway, even the mark II version. My advice, if you're having USB problems, forget it and try parallel. Not directly, no drivers written by Panasonic. I set up a printer for redirection on my PC (redmon.exe) with Ghostprint (8.56 -earlier versions have flaws) and gsprint.exe. Then I created a shared Postscript printer on the PC, enabled printer sharing on the PC and added the shared postscript printer on my Mac. Redmon.exe will 'redirect' postscript to the gsprint.exe routine which turns the postscript over to the local P7100 PC based printer drivers. Not foolproof, but at least I have a cheap network printer.

Cleaning the roller helps for a while. ---- My discomforts are that there is no Mac driver software, and I have to print through my PC.
I have been using this same printer on both WinXp and Win98SE for a couple of years now. The Win98SE is connected to the parallel port and the Winxp is connected to the USB port. I don't remember if I had to install a special driver, but a disc came with it so the driver should be there or on Panasonic's website. I love this printer. The only problem is that the rubber rollers need to be cleaned with alchohol once in a while (every few months) to prevent jam ups.
Now I removed the cover of the drum's cleaning brush, which is held on by two screws. This contains a semi-clear rubber flap which was covered in old toner. I wiped this clean with a rag as well as cleaning the accumulation of dust off of the brush. After re-assembly, the printer powered up with no error lights or messages and prints fine!! Apparently, the sensor must detect the amount of toner accumulated on the semi-clear rubber strip.

Kx P7100 Driver
May be a software problem. I replaced the whole system--twice, with latest 'updates.' Nono still caqn't use the bounty in the tray. I really would like some help. If I can't fix it I'll have to replace it, and just can't. Ideas or secretes please. Jams: Clean the pickup roller - just above the front of the paper tray.

As I recall, you must first carefully expose the back of the printer by removing the plastic covers from the sides and top of the printer. When you observe the back you can see the paper path where the jam occurs. There are two or three small 'fingers' which normally press lightly against the brown roller. One or more of these rollers have been bent upward away from the roller.
Actually you can't over stretch the spring as the design of the paper tray prevents the pressure pad from extending too far which would cause excessive wear of the pad itself. Additionally the spring will only assert a certain amount of pressure due to the weight of the wire used to construct the spring.
One of the most difficult jobs in managing an upgraded driver database on your system is trying to get every individual driver via the internet. In the event that KX-P7100 becomes bad countless side effects can become noticeable, not the least of which is often a sluggish or declining on-line association.

I had to stretch the 2 big springs under the metal plate in the paper tray to one more inch.
